1 / UBIQUITÉ

This photo series, titled UBIQUITÉ (Ubiquity ), is inspired by Woolf’s novel and reflects a decade of contemplation stretching from when I gave birth to my daughter to now.

One day, while walking to nursery school, my daughter noticed something that most people would overlook: an electricity pole. While we often think of electricity poles as though they are all the same, each one has unique characteristics when you look closer. Importantly, these poles provide essential infrastructure for delivering electricity. I realised that this crucial function is akin to the vital role of housewives in Japan. I started photographing electricity poles as if they were portraits of housewives, and I feel they reflect an aspect of my alter ego. It’s as though each is undergoing a metamorphosis; each is like the trunk of a living tree.
